How the Austrian ski instructor path actually works
Austria regulates ski instruction at state level, and Tyrol runs its own
ladder: Anwärter, then Landesskilehrer, then Diplomskilehrer. Each stage needs
a course, an exam and documented practice at a licensed ski school. It is not
a weekend certificate, and understanding the sequence before you start saves
you a season.
Why Schulefahren Decides Pass or Fail
Examiners are not grading how well you ski privately, they are grading how precisely you demonstrate the standardised movements the ÖSSV curriculum requires. Most candidates do not fail because they lack ability, they fail because of small mechanical deviations from that standard, deviations that are hard to see in yourself. That is exactly what the daily video review is for. On screen, in front of the group, the deviation an examiner would mark in seconds becomes obvious, and watching a fellow candidate make the same error teaches you nearly as much as watching yourself.

We strongly recommend the 3 day cycle for a complete exam simulation and technique correction.

Bring your own peers, or send us your ski video to be matched with a group at a similar exam prep level.

Training pistes are selected based on daily snow conditions and specific drill requirements.

High level competency.
Confident short parallel turns on black pistes, dynamic carving ability, and basic off piste experience.
Course Curriculum and Expectations
- 5 Hours Daily On Piste TrainingIntensive focus on the exam criteria, with corrections handed out inside the group as the day runs.
- Demonstration Technique (Schulefahren)Perfecting the exact mechanical movements required by examiners.
- Dynamic Carving and Radius ControlMastering both short radius and long radius turns at various speeds.
- Basic Video Analysis and TheoryEvery candidate is filmed each day and we watch the footage together as a group, on the same day, while the movement is still fresh. The individual biomechanical breakdown, and taking your own video file home with you, belong to the private lessons.
- Live Radio CoachingReal time feedback during your descents for instant technical adjustments.
- Terrain VersatilityHigh speed fundamentals and off piste mechanics, conditions permitting.

Do I need to speak German to pass the Austrian exam?
The official ÖSSV exams are conducted in German and English, and our prep course is bilingual. We teach you the exact terminology and commands needed to confidently handle the practical teaching segments.
What if I do not have a group to join with?
No problem. Apply individually and send us your ski video. We evaluate your level and match you with other candidates preparing for the same certification.
Is the official exam fee included in the price?
No. The official course and the exam are run and graded by the regional instructors association, and their fees are paid directly to them. We prepare candidates for that exam, we do not run it and we do not grade it. Our fee covers the preparation training only, so that you walk in technically ready.
What happens if the weather is bad during the prep days?
Instructor exams do not stop for bad weather, and neither do we. We train in all safe conditions to prepare you for the reality of the exam and real teaching scenarios.
Do I need my own equipment?
For exam preparation, your own well tuned gear is an advantage since you are working on fine technical detail. Rental equipment is still available at every location if you do not have your own.
Where exactly do we meet?
We agree on a shared meeting point, usually directly at the base station in Tyrol. All details are coordinated before the course begins.
How does booking work and what is the cancellation policy?
A deposit secures your dates, and the balance is settled before the course begins. Cancellation is free of charge up to 14 days beforehand.
Not Included
Ski passes (lift tickets), accommodation, insurance and travel expenses are not included.
